Denis Tardieu is one of Philippe Jambon’s many vigneron friends whose simple, generous and highly affordable wines are released under Jambon’s name, in this case as the cuvée “Une Tranche Sudiste”
The domain is located in Villedieu, a small village in Haut-Vaucluse, near Vaison la Romaine. Here Denis farms 9 hectares of south- and southwest facing slopes that overlooks the Aygues valley planted with the traditional grape varieties Clairette and Bouboulenc for the whites, and Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, Carignan and Cinsault for the reds. The vines were planted more than 30 years ago by Denis’ father at an altitude of 300 meters with an interesting terroir on soils consisting of limestone and clay.
For more than 17 years, Denis has been farming his land organically, fertilizing his vines with composts, harvesting manually and working without the use of pesticides or herbicides in order to protect the health of the soil.
In the cellar, the fermentations are spontaneous and conducted at very low temperatures. They are not filtered or added any sulfites in order to preserve the fruity and aromatic characteristics of the wine.
