Auvergne is a wine region located in the Massif Central mountains of central France. It is one or of our favourite wine regions, known for producing red, white, and sparkling wines, as well as liqueurs made from grape varieties such as Gamay, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. The region is divided into four wine-producing areas: Côte d’Auvergne, Monts d’Ardèche, Velay, and Forez. The region has a cool, continental climate with long, hot summers and cold winters, which can be challenging for grape growing. However, the region’s varied terroir, which includes volcanic soils, provides good drainage and helps the grapes to develop their unique flavors and aromas. Auvergne wines are known for their freshness, acidity, and complexity, and are highly regarded both in France and abroad.
