Description

Lunatic Orange 2020 is made from one of Cédric Garreau’s oldest plots of land with an underground dominated by schist. And believe us, Lunatic Orange is no ordinary Loire-Chenin. The grapes were pressed after 2 weeks of skin contact and left to rest on the gross lees for a year on old barriques. This creates a very aromatic and quite spicy “orange” Chenin with a solid structure and a long aftertaste.

About the Producer

Cédric Garreau is a young, talented natural winemaker that people have been talking about for over years now – and with good reason! Cédric established Garo’Vin in 2010 with only 3,5 hectares of land spread over four different vineyards planted with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grolleau Noir and Chenin Blanc in the municipalities of Beaulieu-sur-Layon and Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay. The age of the vines varies between 5 years for the youngest up to almost 100 years for the oldest with sub-soils composed of schist, clay and silt. All work in the vineyards is done by hand by means of organic and biodynamic farming practices, except a little mechanical help from his Renault 80S tractor that’s about the same age as Cédric and works the soils like a charm. The Garo’cellar is located just across the road from his house where he lives with his adorable family in the small village Chanzeaux.

Cédric’s wines are interesting because they’re rounded by the artisan tradition in Anjou, for instance in his “Anjou Rouge” that’s concentrated and deep with a soft touch of fruity cabernet-tannins, and all out natural and experimental at the same time. A good example of this is his “Lunatic” that Cédric in some vintages macerates for a couple of weeks before pressing, something which gives an aromatic, strong and quite spicy Chenin, or with his semi-carbonic experiments with Cabernet Sauvignon and Grolleau in his “Lulu Berlue”.
