Description

On the 20th of October 2021 Antoine & Daisy picked the Silvaner in a beautiful vineyard close to Eckelsheim. Whole bunches of grapes were transferred into a maceration tank and left to undergo full carbonic maceration for 4 weeks. They didn’t do any pump over, the wine was left to do its thing. After pressing, the juice was transferred into a stainless steel tank to finish fermentation.
On the 4th December 2021 the wine was transferred into old oak barrels from Jura using gravity.
Golden Hour 2021 is an exotic orange wine, with a creamy mouthfeel, fresh and elegant with a lightly stewed tea characteristic. There are some hints of CO2 on the tongue from the maceration, which lift off with a little exposure to oxygen. This is one to try, it’s interesting in so many ways.

About the Producer

This winemaking project was started by Antoine Lucchesi and Daisy Merrick.

Antoine is originally from Marseille. He studied oenology at the winemaking school in Alsace, France. After some years working for different wineries in Germany such as Sekthaus Griesel and Domaine Brand in France, he joined forces with SOMA to begin making his own range of low intervention wines.

Daisy is originally from Norwich, UK. After years of working in the hospitality industry, she went on to study wine, which led her to London and New York working for well known companies such as Majestic wine and Chambers Street Wines. After founding SOMA VINES in Berlin, which started as an importing and distributing company in 2018, then developed into making wines together with Antoine. Their first vintage was 2020.

Antoine and Daisy don’t have their own vines right now so they buy grapes from their winemaker friends who work organic and biodynamic, whilst all sharing the same philosophy. In the cellar they work low intervention. Spontaneous fermentation, no fining, no filtration and no added SO2 in the wines.

The cellar is in Rheinhessen, Germany, where their winemaker friend Andi Mann kindly offered a space in his cellar to begin their project.
