If you ask us, going for a magnum bottle is always a good idea. End of discussion! Bigger is better and size matters or something like that…
Jokes aside, all of our experience with natural wine points to the fact that juicy wine tend to be even more juicy on magnum bottles or bigger, just as “big” wines tend to be even more expressive and complex in large bottles. The reason why that is, we can only guess, but we can only recommend that you try it out for yourself, and we always make sure to have a whole bunch of big bottles in stock.
Dominique Dufour is a former aeroplane engineer from Paris who decided to retire at an early age to return to his country house in Rablay-sur-Layon in Anjou and start making natural wine on more than just an amateur level from the old family vineyard just outside of the village. An amazing plot of land situated on a southward facing hill, the bottom of which he sublets to Mai and Kenju Hodgson. Well, if you know, you know…
Dominique cultivates 0,73 hectares of Chenin Blanc that were planted on top of the hill in 1980 with all his (biodynamic) care and attentiveness. It goes without saying that he doesn’t produce a lot of wine, in fact he only makes one wine a year, a beautiful, dry and crisp Chenin aged in old barriques, and only in unusually fruitful vintages a late harvested Chenin in 50 cl bottles.
